A 7-year-old Texas boy is ‘slowly recovering’ after being attacked by his neighbor’s dog last month, according to police.
According to reports, Conner Landersfrom Azle, had gotten off his school bus and was walking in the 1400 block of Lynock Lane in late January when a neighbor’s dog attacked himthe Parker County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
A boxer-bullmastiff mix “escaped from his fenced-in yard and attacked Conner for unknown reasons,” authorities said.
“When the neighbor tried to stop the attack, the dog approached her and forced her back into her yard,” the statement said.
The police said that another neighbor was alerted to the attack when his own dogs started barking. When he went to investigate the situation, he saw the boxer/bullmastiff mix attacking the boy and intervened, freeing him by “hitting the dog with a large stick.”
Landers was transported to a Fort Worth hospital for serious injuries, including bite wounds to the neck, puncture wounds to the scalp and lacerations to his entire body.
The dog has since been “humanely euthanized,” and his owner, Patti Jean Bell-Neveling, She was arrested Monday on a warrant for a third-degree felony charge of attack by a dog. which resulted in serious bodily injury.
The neighbor who intervened, identified by KDFW as Lorena Parker, said she called 911 after seeing the dog shaking Conner “like a chew toy.”
“Every time he would take the dog out, he would turn around and go back to Connor because he was crying,” Parker told the station. “It was horrible.”
