A female spectator jumped onto the court at Melbourne Park’s Rod Laver Stadium during the ninth game of the second set of the final between the Russian Daniil Medvedev and the Spanish Rafael Nadal, although it was quickly neutralized by the security forces of the Australian Open.
The spontaneous, present in the stands, overcame the surveillance cordon and burst through the back of the track, where the Russian player was. But nevertheless, was soon caught by numerous members of security and the meeting was only interrupted for a few minutes.
The security forces dragged the spectator from the field and the clash continued without major setbacks. Nadal on serve and Medvedev on return in the second set of the Australian Open final.
The young woman tried to show a small banner that said “abolish the detention of refugees” in allusion to the protagonism which Serbian Novak Djokovic won, in contrast to the refugees themselves, when he had to stay in an asylum center.
A group of more than thirty people gathered this Sunday morning at the gates of this center to show their support once again to refugees struggling to get a visa in the oceanic country.
