Joseph Leone was arrested and charged in the fatal shooting of his son of the same name on New Year’s Eve, in what is believed to be the last recorded homicide in NYC in 2021.
Leone, 57, admitted to the crime and was charged with murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, New York police said. He allegedly opened fire in front of his 1200 Bay Street home in Rosebank, State Island, shortly before 7:30 pm on December 31, an NYPD spokesperson said.
The 29-year-old victim, who was named after her dad, Joseph Leone, was shot in the chest. The young man had traveled from South Carolina during the holidays to try to help his father to recovering from a fall and chronic drinking problemhis now widow Kimberly Leone told Daily news.
Cops found young Leone lying unconscious on the sidewalk about two blocks from Hylan Boulevard. He was later pronounced dead at Staten Island University North Hospital, he said. New York Post.
