Ana de Armas said she is disgusted that her nude scenes in the Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde will go viral.
In an interview with Variety, the 34-year-old Cuban confessed that, knowing that her nudity in the feature film will go viral in the cyber world, makes her feel disgusted, but that she understands she can’t do anything about it.
“I know it’s going to go viral, and it’s disgusting. It’s upsetting just thinking about it. I can’t control it, you really can’t control what they do and how they take things out of context.”
She stressed that, for her, it represented an important interpretation of a character who deserved that work.
“I don’t think I felt self-doubt; it just gave me a bad taste to think about the future of those clips. I did things in this film that I would never have done for someone else,” De Armas noted. “I did it for her (Monroe), and I did it for Andrew Dominik (the director).”
Blonde will premiere on the Netflix platform next Wednesday, September 28, but had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month, where De Armas received a 14-minute standing ovation, reports the New York Post.
The film is based on Joyce Carol Oates’ 2000 novel of the same name and also stars Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Xavier Samuel, Toby Huss, and Julianne Nicholson.
Ben Affleck’s former partner confessed that before filming began, she went to the late American figure’s grave to “ask permission” to play her in the movie.
“We had a huge card that we all put messages on for her. Then, we went to the cemetery and put it on her tombstone. In a way, we were asking if we could do the movie.”
