This weekend during an operation, agents from Honduras’ Police Investigation Directorate (DPI) recaptured alias “El Mecanico,” an alleged active member of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) criminal organization.
According to a police report published on the website of the Honduran National Police, the arrested man is a 29-year-old Honduran national known by the alias “El Mecánico,” originally from the municipality of El Triunfo, Choluteca, and a resident of the La Laguna de Comayagüela neighborhood in the Central District municipality. In the same place, he was arrested.
Alias “El Mecánico” escaped from the “Siria” Penitentiary Center in El Porvenir, Francisco Morazán, on January 22, 2023, where he was being held, according to police reports.
He is accused of being responsible for several crimes: illegally possessing a firearm, violence, and attempted deprivation of liberty to the detriment of protected witnesses.
“For the above, the authorities of the Criminal Court of Tegucigalpa, Francisco Morazán, issued a warrant for his arrest on February 1, 2023”, Honduran authorities detailed.
The offender will be placed at the order of the competent Court to continue with the procedure corresponding to the Law.
