The theaters of Mexico City will witness how iconic women exhibit their art in various proposals that include music, dance, theater, music, dance, singing, cabaret and stand up comedyinside the cycle “We are memory”.
The artists who will fill emblematic stages of the country’s capital with emotion, laughter and euphoria are Cecilia Toussaint, astrid hadadLive Quintana, Alexis deAndaAlejandra Ley, the Mexico City Philharmonic OrchestraJaramar, the Regional Women’s Band Women of the Flowery Wind and Alejandra Robles the brunetteamong many other artists.
The venues that will witness how female talent is the basis of culture in CDMX are the Esperanza Iris City Theater, Sergio Magaña Theater, People’s Theater, A Poco No Forum and Benito Juárez Theater. The Capital 21 channel will also join with the transmission of several of the events.
The first edition of “We are memory” aims to present a series of proposals, both contemporary and timeless, that make society reflect on issues of forced disappearance, empowerment of women, white slavery and gender violence.

“It is the first time that the Directorate of Theaters presents a large cycle of women with all the freedom that they express what they want to propose. There is no curatorial line where they were asked what to do, but rather they proposed and that is essential”, said the head of the CDMX Culture Secretariat, Claudia Curiel de Icazaat a press conference.
“We need to fill the theaters, the seats, support and make visible the work of all these women in his artistic work because it is the only way we can generate a change in the city: in how we participate”, added lCuriel de Icaza
We are memory will start on February 19 with the staging Katsumi and the Dragonwhich is under the direction of Andrea Salgado. The play will be presented at the Benito Juárez Theater until the middle of the following month.

On the other hand, at the end of January, the Head of Government of the capital, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that Claudia Curiel de Icaza will be in charge of culture at CDMX.
Curiel studied history at UNAM and specialized in Education for the Arts with the international program taught by McGill, NYU and Harvard universities. In 2017 she joined the ranks of the Coordination of Cultural Dissemination of the UNAM as deputy director of Lake House and, later, as deputy director of programming of the General Directorate of Music.
