A 12-year-old boy died last night in Brooklyn after being hit by multiple bullets while inside a minivan in a shooting that also injured a woman. the NYPD said.
Around 7:45 p.m., the two victims were in a parked vehicle with an 8-year-old girl near Linden Boulevard and East 56th Street, in East Flatbush, when someone opened fire. All three are relatives and residents of the area. They had stopped to eat something, police said according to the preliminary investigation.
The child died of multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said. The 20-year-old woman, who was in the driver’s seat, was shot three times. She was in surgery last night at Kings County Hospital, in stable condition. The 8-year-old girl was unharmed. Pix11.
Police officials said they weren’t sure what it might have been. the reason for the shooting, whether the victims were targeted on purpose or by stray bullets, or mistaken for other people. Initially NYPD was investigating two black sedans seen in the area: one went down East 58th Street and the other down Linden Boulevard.
A source said investigators are considering the possibility that the occupants of both vehicles shot at each other, hitting the family car.
The Mayor Eric Adams was briefed on the shooting, a spokesman said. He went to the scene last night and promised to catch the shooter. “We are going to do our job. We need everyone to help us end this senseless violence.” said.
