Burger King will launch vegan nuggets across the UK starting this Wednesday, as the fast food chain looks to make its menu can take advantage of the popularity of plant-based diets.
The hamburger chain two years ago launched the hamburger Rebel Whopper plant-based that turned out to be unsuitable for vegans because it was cooked on the same grill as meat.
The change in the menu represents the first bet of a fast food operator from the UK offering a version of nuggets without animal products.
The company claims that the product, developed by The Vegetarian Butcher and certified by the Vegan society, is made only with soy and vegetable proteins and has the same flavor as meat foods.
Burger King launched a vegan burger last year that is made without animal products. The company aims to make half its menu meat-free by 2030, in order to achieve the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 41%.
“Adapting to customer preferences is one of Burger King’s main goals,” said Burger King UK CEO Alasdair Murdoch.
“We are committed to helping our customers make good decisions about what they eat and drink and to offer them informed choices.”
Murdoch assured that the measure was an answer to the growing national demand for meatless alternatives and non-animal protein products in the UK.
Patrick Brown, founder and CEO of the company Impossible FoodsHe said that for at least the next 15 years, the meat industry could disappear.
More than 50,000 products have been certified by the Vegan society, with new products that are made from coconut oil, starch, almond paste and oats.
