After defeating British John Ryder by unanimous decision at the Akron Stadium (Jalisco), the four-time boxing champion, Saúl Canelo Álvarez, stressed that he is looking for a rematch against Russian Dmitry Bivol, with whom he lost a year ago at 175 pounds.
In an interview for ESPN, the “king” of the 168 lbs. said he intends to fight Bivol again in his category and on the same terms. Otherwise, people will minimize his hypothetical victory.
However, he mentioned that he is not obsessed with the Russian either, as he revealed that if he doesn’t give the rematch, he has other attractive opponents in mind, among them Jermall Charlo and David Benavidez; the latter knocked out Caleb Plant, a few weeks ago, even more quickly than Canelo did when he faced him in 2021.

“We would see. Obviously, right now in my mind and in my team’s mind is to be able to do that rematch with Bivol, but if not, look for the other important fights that are out there […] There’s Benavidez, there’s Charlo.”

Currently, the Phoenix, Arizona-born fighter is the World Boxing Council(WBC) interim champion in the division and, in theory, would be Canelo’s challenger for the world title. Although many say that Saul is avoiding the fight, the boxer from Guadalajara says he is not close to any opponent.
When asked if he wouldn’t like to fight Cuban David Morrell, who has eight wins and seven knockouts, Canelo answered that he doesn’t know much about him, but he might consider it.
Finally, he confessed that just as he enjoyed giving a show at the Jalisco stadium and in front of his family, he also dreamed of filling the Azteca stadium, just as the tremendous Mexican champion Julio César Chávez did three decades ago.
