She is the daughter of Miguel Torruco Marqués, who was appointed the head of the Ministry of Tourism in 2018, when the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, took office as an executive. For her part, Carlos Slim Domit’s mother-in-law is Gloria Garza de la Garza, celebrated last May 10 by María Elena and her son Miguel Torruco Garza, husband of influencer Chantal Torres. She is also the granddaughter of actress and singer María Elena Marqués Rangel, an exponent of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. She has two siblings, Miguel and Gloria. In 2010, Carlos Slim Domit married María Elena Torruco, daughter of Miguel Torruco Marqués, head of the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of Mexico. According to Quién magazine, the engagement took place in Acapulco, but Torruco did not expect it because that day was Carlos’ 43rd birthday party, so his family and friends would attend. When it was time for the cake, the bride got a big surprise, as the businessman gave her an engagement ring with a special dedication.

Months after the delivery of the ring and the proposal, which took place at María Elena’s house in the south of Mexico City, the couple married on October 9, 2010, and the religious ceremony took place in the parish of San Agustín, located in Polanco, one of the most exclusive areas of the capital.

Some of the guests recorded in the national media were Ludwika Paleta, Joaquín López Dóriga, Emilio Azcárraga Jean and his wife Sharon Fastlicht Kurian, Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, Vicente Fox, singer-songwriter Emmanuel, businessman Juan Domingo Beckmann, writer Guadalupe Loaeza and even Gabriel García Márquez, who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982.

“The attendees who stayed until the end of a gigantic and lavish wedding were invited, at dawn, food from a cafeteria where a breakfast costs less than 10 dollars,” the journalist pointed out in his book.

According to Quién magazine, the parish was decorated with mini orchids, chrysanthemums, and white roses; also, two detailed walls of tulips were built to create an aisle to frame the bride and groom’s entrance to the venue. As for the table linens used during the party at the Soumaya Museum, golden tones, blanket umbrellas stood out, and floral arrangements in white tones.

Currently, the couple has four young children: Marielle, Emiliano, Carlos, and Nicol, all of them minors, with whom they have been seen attending sports and entertainment events.
