After last Friday elements of the Mexican Navy arrested Rafael Caro Quintero, called in “Narco de narcos”, the press has highlighted that some artists have performed songs dedicated to the founder of the extinct Guadalajara cartel, among which Gloria Trevi and the Mexican regional group “Los Tigres del Norte”.
And not necessarily because drug trafficking was advocated, but for a criticism of the illicit activities of the so-called “Narco de narcos”.
“Caro”, Gloria Trevi’s song against Caro Quintero
One of the songs written was that of Gloria Trevi, in 1985 where she criticizes the illicit activities of Caro Quintero, who was in prison that year for drug trafficking.
Gloria Trevi composed the song “Caro” as a criticism against the leader and founder of the Guadalajara cartel, where Joaquín “El Chapo Guzmán” began his criminal career.
The drug dealer was arrested in Chihuahua
Rafael Caro Quintero, was arrested on June 15 during an operation by the Mexican Navy in Sinaloa, for the purpose of extradition to the United States, where he is accused of drug trafficking and for the kidnapping and murder of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena Salazar, DEA agentwhich occurred on February 9, 1985.
R. One, the topic of the Tigres del Norte
His criminal history has served as inspiration for songs, one of them is the theme “R. Uno”, performed by Los Tigres del Norte, a song included in their album “Corridos prohibited”, which was released in 2001.
The narcocorrido is inspired by the operation carried out by the Mexican Army and the DEA in the town of Búfalo, in the northern state of Chihuahua, to locate Caro Quinterobut they did not find it, they only seized 10 tons of marijuana.
History highlights that Caro Quintero was arrested in 1985 in Costa Rica and extradited to Mexico.
Accused of killing DEA agent
The so-called Narco de narcos was released in 2013, after spend 28 years in prison for the murder of “Kiki” Camarena, but later a judge issued an arrest warrant against him, for which he was a fugitive until last Friday when he was apprehended.
Caro Quintero to the rhythm of rock
But not only narcocorridos inspired Rafael Caro Quintero, but also rock songs, such as the one composed by Alex Lora, leader of the Mexican rock band “El Tri”, who wrote and performed “Sara“.
The topic alludes to the love story between Caro Quintero and Sara Cosío, daughter of the former Secretary of Education of the state of Jalisco.
“Sara” talks about the relationship between the daughter of the former Mexican official, and the then leader of the Guadalajara cartel. The authorities believed that the young woman had been kidnapped by the drug trafficker and began a search for her.
His love with Sara Cosío
But they got a surprise, since the woman declared that she was with Caro Quintero of her own free will.
These are just some of the songs inspired by the Narco de narcos, who awaits his extradition to the United States.
