Eindhoven, Netherlands – October 29, 2023: Mexican striker Hirving “Chucky” Lozano was the hero for PSV Eindhoven on Sunday, scoring a hat trick to lead his side to a stunning 5-2 comeback victory over rivals Ajax Amsterdam in a thrilling Dutch Eredivisie clash.
The match at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven was off to a worrying start for the home side, as Ajax took an early lead through Branco van den Boomen in the 10th minute. However, PSV and Lozano would soon respond.
In the 20th minute, Lozano picked up the ball on the left flank, cut inside, and fired a powerful low shot into the bottom corner to draw PSV level at 1-1. It was a superb goal from the Mexican winger that showcased his trademark technique and tenacity.
Ajax retook the lead before halftime through Brian Brobbey, but PSV came out firing in the second half. Within 10 minutes of the restart, goals from Luuk de Jong and Ismael Saibari turned the match on its head to make it 3-2 in favor of the hosts.
Sensing blood, Lozano added his second of the night on the hour mark, arriving at the back post to tap in a low cross and extend PSV’s lead to 4-2. The 27-year-old was buzzing, and he wasn’t done yet.

In the 72nd minute, Lozano completed his hat trick in a slightly controversial fashion. After a goalmouth scramble, he appeared to bundle the ball over the line with his arm before wheeling away in celebration. The goal stood, much to the fury of Ajax’s players and fans.
The 5-2 victory sees PSV open up a five-point lead at the top of the Eredivisie table as they extended their perfect start to the season. Lozano’s hat trick was the first of his European career, and his Man of the Match performance highlighted why PSV opted to bring him back to the club this summer after his time with Napoli.
For Ajax, the loss compounds a dismal start to the new campaign. After 10 matches, the four-time European champions languish at the bottom of the table with just 5 points, plunging further into crisis.
Lozano will now head off to join up with the Mexican national team for upcoming friendlies against Iraq and Sweden. With the World Cup fast approaching, his scintillating form could see him become a key player for El Tri in Qatar. PSV will be hoping he can continue his goalscoring heroics when Eredivisie action resumes in three weeks.
