The animated movie about the video game “Super Mario Bros”, which Nintendo is preparing with Universal Studios, will hit theaters around Christmas 2022.
Universal Studios advanced the project on Thursday, which will feature a stellar voice cast in which Chris pratt will give life to Super Mario, Charlie day will play Luigi and Anya Taylor-Joy It will be Princess Peach.
It will also add, in its English version, the participation of Keegan-Michael Key, Jack black, Seth rogen, Fred armisen, Kevin Michael Richardson and Sebastian maniscalco.
Nintendo describes this film as a “piece of entertainment that will bring ‘Super Mario Bros’ to theaters for everyone to enjoy, whether they know the game or not.”
Although the plot is unknown, it seems that it will feature all the characters from the video game franchise such as Bowser, Donkey Kong, Toad and Spike.
It will be the second film about the popular plumber. Earlier, in 1993, “Super Mario Bros” was released, a film starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo that was a critical and box office failure but that over time has acquired a certain cult status.
At the moment, the new animated film is entitled: “Super Mario Bros. Animated Film.”
The Mario character first appeared in 1981 in the Donkey Kong video game and since then the franchise has sold more than 500 million copies of its games, with which it has become the most successful brand in video game history.
In addition, the saga includes other titles such as “Mario Kart” and “Mario Party”, comics, novels and even a holiday, known as National Mario Day, which is celebrated every March 10.
