Daddy Yankee invests in sports and becomes co-owner of a baseball team

Puerto Rican artist Daddy Yankee (rapper, songwriter, actor, and record producer) has joined the Cangrejeros de Santurce baseball team from the Caribbean capital as an investor and co-owner, as was disclosed this Tuesday through a statement.

Daddy Yankee will join the team manager Thomas Axon and the entity’s president, Justo Moreno, as co-owners of the Santurce Cangrejeros, which It is based in San Juan and plays its home games at Hiram Bithorn Stadium.

“My fans know that I am passionate about baseball. I grew up in Santurce, what better way to celebrate my roots than by joining the Cangrejeros team to continue promoting our talent outside of Puerto Rico and inspire the new generation of local and young talent ”, highlighted the artist.

“The history and importance of the team to Puerto Rico’s sporting heritage convinced Daddy Yankee that the continuing rebirth of Puerto Rico baseball was something he felt he needed to get involved in,” Axon explained of his invitation to Daddy Yankee to become. in one of the team owners.

“The particular history of this team and the fact that Daddy Yankee grew up playing baseball essentially in the shadow of our stadium in Santurce, they were also important in Daddy Yankee’s decision, ”Moreno added.

The team roster has included many players who they later became members of the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame, including Roberto Clemente, which bears the name of the entire Puerto Rico professional baseball league.

The Roberto Clemente League Cangrejeros won the 2019-20 League championship before the pandemic prevented the team from playing the 2020-21 season. The 2021-22 season is scheduled to begin on November 6.

Many of the regular season games of the Roberto Clemente League, and all of the “postseason” games, will be broadcast in Puerto Rico by the WAPA network and throughout the United States and internationally by Fox.
