Who’s in, who’s out: Diego Cocca’s first roster for Mexico national team

The Argentinean coach will present his first call-up for the new World Cup process.

After being eliminated in the Group Stage of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, this Thursday, March 2, the Mexican National Team will announce its first list of called-up players in the new process headed by Argentinean coach Diego Cocca.

A few weeks ago, after the departure of Gerardo “Tata” Martino, the Mexican Soccer Federation made official the arrival of Diego Cocca as the new coach for the 2026 World Cup process. Today, the two-time champion with Atlas de Guadalajara will present the first players to make up his list of called-up players.

Diego Cocca’s list of called-up players

Although the official list of Mexico’s called-up players has not yet been confirmed, Fox Sports journalist Rubén Rodríguez leaked the names of the players chosen by Diego Cocca for the matches to be played during the FIFA Date in March.

According to the leaked information, the major absentees from the call-up list are Andrés Guardado and Rogelio Funes Mori. Both were part of the players who traveled with Mexico for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The list would be:

  • Goalkeepers: Guillermo Ochoa, Carlos Acevedo and Antonio Rodríguez.
  • Defenders: César Montes, Jorge Sánchez, Johan Vásquez, Gerardo Arteaga, Luis Reyes, Jesús Gallardo, Kevin Álvarez, Gilberto Sepúlveda, Héctor Moreno, Néstor Araujo, Jesús Ángulo, Julián Araujo.
  • Midfielders: Luis Romo, Roberto Alvarado, Carlos Rodríguez, Uriel Antuna, Marcel Ruíz, Diego Lainez, Sebastián Córdova, Edson Álvarez, Erick Gutiérrez, Luis Chávez, Alfonso González, Fernando Beltrán and Erik Sánchez.
  • Strikers: Hirving Lozano, Orbelin Pineda, Raúl Jiménez, Santiago Giménez, Henry Martín, Roberto de la Rosa.

Mexico’s matches in the Concacaf Nations League

Diego Cocca will debut as coach of the Mexican National Team on March 23 when “El Tri” will face Suriname. The next match will take place at the Azteca Stadium on March 26 when they face Jamaica. Both matches are CONCACAF Nations League matches.
