For his part Musk praised Volkswagen as an icon of the auto industry ensuring that the German company can be inspired by its transformation.
Several were the questions Musk received during the conference but when asked why Tesla is more agile than other automakers, Musk responded that success is based on the management style of the company Since he is fascinated by logistics, production processes and supply chains.
Diess set the example that Tesla has been able to cope with the current global chip shortage better than the rest of the auto industry because its software teams rewrote Tesla’s software in just three weeks, allowing the use of different chips.
The two CEOs had already met in the past and they seem to be getting along. Musk stated that he believes VW can be successful in the transition to electric vehicles, and they both see the other company as their “strongest competitor.” Diess also stated that he plans to visit soon the Tesla Gigafactory being built in Berlin, in Grunheide.
