What is Radical, the film with which Eugenio Derbez triumphed at the Sundance Film Festival 2023, about?

Radical is a film directed by Christopher Zalla and starring Eugenio Derbez. The two had worked together in ‘Sangre de mi Sangre.’

The film tells the story of Sergio Juarez, a teacher in Matamoros, Tamaulipas – played by Eugenio Derbez – who must find a way to get closer to his students.

Amidst the violence and neglect of the educational system, Sergio Juarez proves that school is the ideal place to test a new method to unlock the curiosity and potential of his students.

The film centers on the real-life story of Sergio Juárez Correa, the teacher who inspired Derbez’s character and made headlines for his teaching method ten years ago.

Radical had its world premiere on January 19 and had six screenings at the Sundance Film Festival 2023.

Radical does not yet have a release date in Mexico, but so far, it has received good reviews from the Sundance Film Festival jury, so it is expected to be seen in the country soon.
