The successful musical talent reality show, ‘Eurovision’, continues its international expansion with a new format after the ‘American Song Contest’ and ‘Eurovision Song Contest Canada’ editions.
After an attempt to conquer Africa in 2014 and Asia in 2019, the contest is preparing its arrival in Latin America, specifically in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Chile -considered the leaders in international ratings-, with a version that will be named ‘ Eurovision Latin America’, as announced in a statement.
According to the document issued by UER, ‘Eurovision Latin America’ will be produced by Christer Björkman, Anders Lenhoff, Ola Melzig, Peter Settman and Greg Lipstone from Voxovation, who also finance the ‘American Song Contest’ and ‘Eurovision Song Contest Canada’ versions.
The producers are already beginning to glimpse the cities that will host the new version of the contest, although the options include Mexico City and Buenos Aires.
In this sense, the executive supervisor of Eurovision, Martin Osterdahl, considers it a success to bring this reality show – which received the Guinness record in 2015 as the longest-running television musical competition in the world-, to Latin America.
“Following the launch of the ‘American Song Contest’, and with plans underway for next year’s ‘Eurovision Song Contest Canada’, the European Broadcasting Union is delighted to now be working with Voxovation to bring the excitement and magic of ‘ Eurovision Song Contest’ to Latin America. The unique format of ‘Eurovision’ finds new fans around the world every year and we can’t wait to expand the brand in this very diverse part of the world,” he stated.
For their part, Peter Settman and Greg Lipstone, on behalf of the Voxovation production team, have revealed that they have an entertainment product that has been successful for almost seven decades.
“Fans across Latin America have consistently rallied for the ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ brand, and the ‘Latin American Eurovision Song Contest’ is the embodiment of that fervent passion, as well as a continuation of the broad vision that we, the production team, we have for ‘Eurovision’ as a global brand”, they sentenced.
