A two-year-old boy died and his father was seriously injured after being attacked with bullets. when they were traveling in a van, in Nuevo León, northern Mexico.

According to testimonies taken by local authorities, the events occurred when they were driving through the town of Montemorelos, where armed men started to fired at the vehicle.

Although the driver and father of the victim was also injured, he drove several more kilometers to find a security filter and requested help. Both people were transferred to the hospital in the south of Monterrey, but even though they were treated, the minor died due to a neck injury..

In an official statement, the Montemorelos Public Security Secretariat confirmed the facts and stressed that it is “an isolated situation in which a family participates after suffering an attack by unidentified civilians ” and stated that the investigation of the case are in the hands of the State Attorney’s Office.

With this happening, the wave of violence in Nuevo León is accentuated, with an unofficial accumulated number close to 920 murders so far in 2021, surpassing the 2020 mark, which closed at 914.

With more than a month till the end of 2021, everything indicates that it would exceed the record of intentional homicides of 2019, when 956 were registered.
