Governor Kathy Hochul said Buffalo shooting was carried out by “white supremacists”

Given the tragic incident in Buffalo, New York, where a local was attacked by a person who was involved in a shooting that killed ten people, the governor of the state, Kathy Hochul, indicated that the incident was perpetrated by “white supremacists”.

Through his Twitter account, Hochul published that he met with law enforcement in order to find out the latest news about the shooting, specifying that it was carried out by “Buffalo white supremacists”, while highlighting the work of a local security worker who was killed after trying to neutralize the shooter.

In the afternoon, a shooting took place at a Tops Markets, located on Jefferson avenue, in Buffalo, which left ten dead, and an alleged suspect in custody, who was later identified as Payton S. Gendron, 18 years old.

Investigators detailed that the suspect was a young white man, who at the time of the attack was dressed in military clothing. He allegedly arrived at the premises with a bulletproof vest, a black helmet and a high-caliber rifle.

The shooting was first confirmed by Erie County Executive Mark Policarz, who from his Twitter account reported that the police were on the scene and asked citizens to stay away from the area where the incident occurred.

During the investigations, the FBI had an active participation, cataloging the tragic event as a hate crime.

In statements offered to the Associated Press, the FBI special agent in charge of the Buffalo office, Stephen Blodgettt, and the federal attorney for the Western District of New York, Trini Ross, stated that the incident was being investigated as a “hate crime” and a case of “racist-motivated extremist violence.”
