Hispanic Teacher Killed in Texas School Shooting Identified; she was mother and wife

Tonight the Hispanic teacher who died during the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas was identifiedalong with 18 students and one other adult.

This is the teacher Eva Mireles who taught classes in the fourth gradethe first victim identified after the massacre that rocked the small town, located about 85 miles west of San Antonio.

The teacher’s aunt, Lydia Martínez, identified Mireles and said in a statement that her niece had been working for the Uvalde Independent School District for 17 years, according to reporter Gustavo Rangel of La Opinion.

“I am furious that these shootings continue, these children are innocent. There shouldn’t be rifles available to everyone. This is my town, a community of less than 20 thousand people. I never imagined that this could happen to my loved ones,” said Martínez.

According to the Robb School website, Mireles was a mother and wife who was passionate about running and enjoying nature.

As of 11 p.m. Tuesday, the shooting had claimed the lives of 18 students and three adults, said Senator Roland Gutiérrez, who received the information from the Texas Rangers. The attacker would have been killed, according to the authorities.

Salvador Ramos, the shooter, allegedly also shot his grandmother before entering Robb Elementary, then opened fire on the fatal victims, however, the woman’s condition is unknown.

It is the deadliest school shooting in Texas history and comes four years after a gunman shot and killed 10 people at Santa Fe High School in the Houston area.

“He horribly, incomprehensibly, shot and killed 14 students and killed a teacher,” Texas Governor Greg Abbott said, adding that two officers were shot and wounded but were expected to survive. The statement was given by the president a couple of hours after the shooting.

Abbott mentioned that the shooter Salvador Ramos was originally from Uvalde.
