In the quest to expand its market, Ikea, one of the most important furniture brands in the world, has decided piloting a new furniture buyback and resale program, published Mercad2.0.
The first store to launch this pilot program will take place at the Ikea branch in the suburb of Conshohocken in Philadelphia, USA. from this Monday until next September 19. However, it aims to make this service a permanent feature in all stores in the country.
Ikea has already implemented this buyback program in other countries such as the United Kingdom, and seeks to make its business more sustainable and positive with the environment by 2030.
In this new mode, customers will be able to sell their used furniture in exchange for store credit. Items will appear as available for resale in the “Tal Cual” section of Ikea at more affordable prices. The only thing a customer requires to sell their furniture is to join the loyalty program for free.
To ensure that the items are in good condition, before being put up for sale, all fully assembled furniture will undergo an evaluation based on its condition, age and functionality.
“We are passionate about making sustainable living easy and affordable for many, and we want to be part of a future that is better for people and the planet,” Ikea sustainability director Jennifer Keesson told CNBC.
Bet on new markets and policies interested in developing a more sustainable culture, are fundamental keys of Ikea in its strategy to improve its income and meet the needs of consumers.
Retailers understand that they must stay current and innovate to keep the public interested, mainly young people, who are the ones who mainly demand that companies are increasingly aware of their role in caring for the environment.
According to “Brandz Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands 2020”, globally Ikea is the most valuable furniture store brand and as a retailer it ranks fourth globally, valued at around $ 48 billion.
