Ahmed Shamim (35) was found guilty on Tuesday of the rape of an immigrant student in Queens (NYC).
According to the prosecution, the unidentified university immigrant she had just gone to sleep after celebrating her birthday when she woke up because a man was raping her, in 2019. The victim was 25 years old at the time and was living in the abuser’s home.
The young woman was taken to hospital for treatment, where she underwent a forensic examination. Shamim was arrested shortly after the rape, because DNA evidence incriminated him. He now faces up to 25 years in prison at his March 21 sentence, Pix11 said.
“The defendant violated the trust of a woman who was a guest in his home”, District Attorney Melinda Katz commented. “After weighing all the evidence presented at trial, a jury found the defendant guilty. The Court is now scheduled to sentence him to a long period of imprisonment as a measure of justice for his crime.”
The victim had just moved from Bangladesh to the US to attend university and at the time of the outrage she was staying in Shamim’s apartment, where she shared a room with his niece.
