This Sunday morning, the vehicle of the senator Martha Guerrero was shot when she was going towards Temoaya, Mexico state, to the takeover of the new city council led by Nelly Brígida Rivera Sánchez.
Initial reports indicate that the senator suffered some mishap and was unharmed because the shots fell on the driver’s side.
The events occurred when the legislator arrived in Temoaya around 9:30 a.m. A subject approached a few meters from the car in which Martha Guerrero was traveling and fired his weapon four times, frightening the vehicle’s occupants.
Shooting happens in protest of senators
The aggression occured within the framework of the protesting tours carried out by the senators of the State of Mexico to the different municipalities where Morena won in the last election.
“The senator is fine and with us. Now the people of Governor Alfredo del Mazo will have to investigate what it was about. We are already in contact with them”, detailed Senator Higinio Martínez Miranda.
In addition, the senator clarified that the tours of the various municipalities will not be slowed down and visits to the different localities will continue.
Who is Martha Guerrero?
Martha Guerrero Sánchez was born in the municipality of La Paz, Mexico state. She was a militant of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) and later the National Regeneration Movement (Morena). In 2015, she was nominated by Morena as municipal president of La Paz.
For the 2018 federal elections, she was nominated as a substitute for Delfina Gómez Álvarez, candidate for Senator of the Republic for Morena on behalf of the Edomex. After the elections, she was elected as a senator of the first formula. On December 4, 2020, Martha Guerrero Sánchez assumed office after Delfina Gómez’s license request.
