Ismael Contreras, renowned Peruvian actor and playwright, died at the age of 77

Ishmael Contreras, Peruvian director, playwright and actor, died at the age of 77. The news was confirmed by “Palosanto, theater and communication”; cultural association led by the artist, through an extensive statement that they shared on social networks.

“Our beloved director, Ismael Contreras, is no longer with us. A respiratory arrest product of a terrible disease such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis has taken it away from us”, indicated the association in a publication for the social network Facebook.

“A disease for which there is no treatment, but which he faced day by day with great courage and hope. His strength was leaving him, fatigue invaded him at the slightest effort, but he continued constantly enjoying the family, writing and organizing his projects”, reads the message.

“Ismael, your life has been a great work, you leave a fruitful production for the benefit of our children and society. We appreciate and honor your life. Today the curtain closed, we send you an eternal applause to heaven”, The sad announcement ended.

The outstanding actor, who participated in the Peruvian film “Elevangel de la carne” (2013) and in many other national productions, He had among his last works the play “Calígula” (2018); staging in the auditorium of the North American Peruvian Cultural Institute.

He also filmed scenes in “La Pena Máxima”, a still unreleased film based on the novel by Santiago Roncagliolo. His filming partner, Emmanuel Soriano, also spoke out and shared unpublished photos on Instagram with his septuagenarian colleague.

“Our dear friend and actor is gone. Very good in every way. Theater, cinema, tv. Comedy drama. Ishmael and his nobility swam freely and talented throughout. Great person, gosh. (…) Rest in Peace and have a good trip dear Ismael”, wrote next to the pictures.
