Who was Juan Arturo ‘El Pollo’ Torres Landa?

Juan Arturo “El Pollo” Torres Landa was a successful bullfighting and real estate entrepreneur. Son of the former governor of Guanajuato, Juan José Torres Landa, he inherited his talent and political vocation.

Supported by his brother Juan Germán, “El Pollo” made one of his greatest dreams come true: to build the Juriquilla Province Bullring, the most beautiful bullring in the world, as many bullfighters call it, among them the great José Tomás.

According to the family, the man’s health was compromised due to the liver and bone marrow cancer he was suffering from. In November 2022, “El Pollo” was named Businessman of the Year by the Club de Industriales.

In a ceremony held in the penultimate month of 2022 and headed by the governor of Querétaro, the businessman received this recognition. In his speech, Juan Arturo thanked Querétaro for the hospitality and opportunities Querétaro has offered him over the past 54 years, both in his business and personal life.

I am satisfied, proud of my work and what I have achieved (…). I feel very grateful, and for that, I thank Querétaro and its people for giving me friendship, hospitality, and the valuable opportunity to develop my projects,” said Torres Landa.

It should be noted that although Torres Landa was originally from Leon, Guanajuato, he spent most of his life in Queretaro. His main role as a businessman was focused on the real estate market. However, this was not the only one since he also ventured into the bullfighting and golf businesses.

True to his principles, he actively participated in politics all his life, being a great admirer of Benito Juarez, and was motivated by the example of his father, ex-governor of Guanajuato.
