On October 29, several Mexican media outlets reported the death of Guadalupe Esparza, the biological father of María Fernanda, the adopted daughter of musician Luis Ángel ‘El Flaco.’ This came only two and a half months after María Fernanda herself passed away at the age of 21, a devastating blow for ‘El Flaco.’
“It is with deep sadness that I have to communicate the departure of my beloved daughter María Fernanda. It is the greatest pain one can feel (…) My daughter is already buried. I already gave her to God; he gave me the privilege of having her, of being that father for a while, and he decided to take her away. We have to accept his will (…). My daughter is gone and left a huge void here that I do not know how long it will last to be able to understand what is happening,” the former member of the band Los Recoditos penned sorrowfully.

Bonds That Endure: A Father-Daughter Relationship Beyond Marriage
‘El Flaco’ had originally adopted María Fernanda upon marrying her mother, Maricruz Robles. Although the marriage ended, the loving relationship between ‘El Flaco’ and his adopted daughter remained steadfast.
The Forgotten Father: Guadalupe Esparza’s Life and Legacy
The circumstances surrounding Esparza’s death are as tragic as they are revealing. He passed away from a stroke on October 29, just months after his biological daughter’s death. His sister, Isabel Esparza, divulged to the newspaper Debate that Guadalupe had spent years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.
“Guadalupe Esparza had been away from his daughter María Fernanda for several years, for different reasons, among them, that he remained in prison accused of an act he did not commit,” Isabel said. She added that upon regaining his freedom, Guadalupe sought to reunite with his family and rebuild his life, attempting to put the past behind him.
It remains unclear whether Esparza had the chance to reconnect with María Fernanda before her untimely passing.
