A terrible event is distressing Georgia’s capital and largest – and most populated – city. One person was killed, and at least four others were injured in an “active shooter” situation in Atlanta on Wednesday, May 3. So far, no suspects are under arrest, and police have launched an operation to track down the assailant. According to authorities, the situation developed inside a building on West Peachtree Street between 12th Street and 13th Street. They have asked people to avoid the area completely or, if they are in the area, to take shelter in nearby establishments. Police immediately cordoned off the scene and began a massive search operation. As a result, all activities in Midtown were utterly paralyzed.
An Urgent Care and Family Practice Center was attacked.
The address provided by the Atlanta police is 1110 W. Peachtree St. NW, where a Northside Hospital urgent care and family practice center is located. However, it is unclear if it occurred at or around that address. This is according to the report sent out at 12:45 local time. After 13:00 hours, the Atlanta Police Department (ADP) only issued a statement asking the public to remain “vigilant” for the suspect, as he is still at large. In the images provided by the police, the subject is seen standing at the edge of an office entrance, “pointing at something.” He wears a gray sweatshirt, black pants, and brown tennis shoes.
“Anyone with information on this person’s whereabouts is asked to call 911. The suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached.” the ADP wrote in an emailed statement.

They stopped commercial, work, and school activities in the area.
In response to this incident, the police began a massive operation where several units flooded the streets to find the fugitive from justice. This led to a complete paralyzation of daily activities in Midtown, leaving commercial establishments, schools, and offices closed, with people inside taking shelter, fearing that the attacker would shoot at civilians again. Atlanta Public Schools issued a public safety alert saying several instances “will operate on exterior lockdown for the remainder of the day, as a precaution, until we receive further information from authorities.” Also, the Woodruff Arts Center – among the buildings in the area – will remain on lockdown.

For its part, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office tweeted that they were assisting the Atlanta Police Department to find the subject’s whereabouts jointly. This meant an abysmal law enforcement presence in the area. To the point that 11Alive photojournalist Tyson Paul took a video of law enforcement flooding the streets, which included SWAT units – elite special police teams – on the scene. At the same time, a state senator, politician Josh McLaurin, reported through his social networks that he was locked up in a restaurant in the area. “We don’t have to live like this.” he pointed out on Twitter.
Deion Patterson, 24, is the alleged shooter.
The violent shooter was described – via an alert sent to cell phones – as a young man with a black complexion wearing a gray hoodie, black pants, and brown shoes. At the same time, authorities said they could identify the assailant, a young man named Deion Patterson, only 24 years old, and urged anyone with information on the subject’s whereabouts to call 911.
