In a surprising turn of events, the much-anticipated O2 Urban Fest, scheduled for August 29 and 30 at the Antel Arena, has been canceled. The festival, which had promised the headlining performances of Puerto Rican superstars Myke Towers and Anuel AA, was called off just a day before its commencement.
The announcement was made public by the event’s producers through a statement on Monday night. “Due to reasons beyond the control of international artists Anuel AA, Myke Towers, other participating artists, and Antel Arena, Eventos Live SRL informs of the cancellation of the O2 Urban Fest scheduled for August 29 and 30,” the statement read.
This cancellation comes as a particular disappointment for fans since tickets for the first day, with Anuel AA headlining, were sold out. The statement further elucidated, “Our production house is responsible after making maximum efforts to conduct the presentations.”
The Reason Behind the Cancellation
Real Hasta La Muerte LLC, in a separate press release, shed light on the reasons for the abrupt cancellation. It stated that the decision was primarily due to the non-payment by the production team of the O2 Urban Fest. “This violates the contractual terms agreed upon between Real Hasta La Muerte LLC, Anuel, and Rafael Fernández Hofmeister (event producer). Despite efforts to uphold the integrity of the contract, the financial non-compliance led us to this tough decision.”
Emmanuel Gazmey Santiago, better known by his stage name Anuel AA, has yet to comment on the issue via social media. However, the press release continued, “Anuel deeply regrets the situation and apologizes to his Uruguayan followers for the disappointment caused. He reaffirms his commitment to the audience and hopes to reunite in the future when conditions are suitable and contractual terms are met.”
Refund Information and Future Plans
For fans who had purchased their tickets using credit or debit cards, the production company assured an automatic refund. However, those who bought their tickets in cash can obtain their refunds from Redpagos outlets by presenting their tickets in good condition. The window for this process is from August 29 to September 8.
This event would have marked the first time that both Anuel and Myke Towers performed in Uruguay. Announced in July, the festival had also lined up several other local and international artists, including Soy Turista, Cris Mj, and Agus Padilla.
As of now, there is no word on a rescheduled date for the concert.
