Hard to believe what happened on Christmas Day. Marylue Wigglesworth was arrested on suspicion of shooting and killing her husband, David Wigglesworth. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the 57-year-old man was found dead in their Mays Landing home on Sunday night.
It’s unclear if the couple’s adult son or anyone else was present at the New Jersey residence at the time of the incident.
However, officers arrived at the Somers Point Road address around 10:19 p.m. and discovered the victim with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Marylue, aged 51, was taken into custody and booked into the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Neither the prosecutor’s office nor the Hamilton Township Police Department immediately provided comment on the investigation when contacted by the New York Post.
By the way, David Wigglesworth, affectionately known as “Wiggy” to friends and family, was active in local politics. He ran for township committee as a Republican in 2019, although he was not successful. He also served on the planning board and volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City.
A close acquaintance of the couple, who is active on social media, expressed shock at the tragedy on Facebook: “I can’t believe this! We have known Dave and Mary for years… This simply cannot be true.”
It’s worth noting that all charges are mere accusations and the individuals being prosecuted are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
