Palestinian missile leveled homes killing several civilians including six children in Gaza

Gaza Strip.- Israeli air strikes razed homes in Loop on Saturday as Palestinian extremist missile barrages against southern Israel persisted, raising fears of another escalation of the conflict that, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, has already killed at least 24 people in the coastal strip, including six children.

The fighting began when Israel killed a commander of the Palestinian extremist group. Islamic Jihad in a series of attacks on Friday, which Israel said were aimed at preventing an imminent attack. A 5 year old girl and two women were among those killed in those attacks.

Until now, Hamas, the Islamist group that rules the Gaza Stripseemed to be consolidated outside the conflict, which somehow contained its intensity. Israel and Hamas they fought a war just a year ago, one of four major conflicts and several small ones in the past 15 years that have exacted a huge toll on the impoverished Palestinian territory of two million people.

If Hamas remains silent on part of how much damage it causes Israel to Gaza when missile attacks are found against you.

The Israeli army claimed that an errant missile fired by Palestinian militants killed civilians, including children, on Saturday night in Jabalia, a town north of Gaza City. The army said on Saturday that it investigated the incident and concluded “without a doubt” that it was caused by a misfire by the Islamic Jihad militant group.

At the moment, the Palestinian authorities have not offered official statements about the incident. A Palestinian medical worker, who was not authorized to release information to the media and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said the blast killed at least six people, including three children.

On Saturday afternoon, Israeli warplanes intensified the attacks by hitting four residential buildings in the Gaza Cityall apparently linked to militiamen of the Islamic Jihad. There were no reports of casualties. In each case, the Israeli military had alerted residents in advance of the attacks.

Another attack on Saturday targeted a vehicle, killing a 75-year-old woman and wounding six others.

In one of the attacks, after warnings, warplanes dropped two bombs on the house of a member of the Islamic Jihad. The blast collapsed the two-story structure, leaving a large debris-filled crater, and severely damaged the surrounding houses.

Women and children ran from the area.

”Did they warn us? They warned us with the rockets and we fled without taking anything,” said Huda Shamalakh, who lived next door. The woman added that 15 people lived in the razed house.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that 24 Palestinians, including six children and two women, had been killed during two days of fighting and that more than 200 people were injured. The Ministry does not differentiate between civilians and combatants. The army said on Friday that the first estimates were around 15 fighters turned up.

The only power plant in Loop stopped its activities on Saturday at noon due to the lack of fuel, since Israel has kept its border crossings into Gaza since Tuesday.

With the new interruption, the inhabitants of Loop they can get just four hours of electricity a day, increasing their reliance on private generators and deepening the territory’s chronic energy crisis amid peak summer heat.

Throughout the day, militants from Loop periodically fired rounds of missiles at Israel. The Israeli military said on Saturday night that nearly 450 missiles had been fired, 350 of which reached Israel but almost all were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system. Two people suffered minor shrapnel injuries.

A barrage of missiles was fired at Tel Aviv, setting off sirens alerting residents to approach shelters, but the missiles were intercepted or fell into the sea, according to the army.

On Friday night, in a televised address to the nation, Israeli Interim Prime Minister Yair Lapid he stated that “Israel is not interested in a broader conflict in Gaza, but it will not shy away from one either.”
