Pediatrician hired “hitman” to kill her ex-husband; she didn’t know that alleged thug was an FBI agent

A Kentucky woman is facing federal charges for allegedly trying to hire an undercover FBI agent to kill her ex-husband.

Louisville pediatrician Stephanie Russell, 52, she was arrested on May 19 after agreed to pay $7,000 to an officer of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The United States Department of Justice reported that Russell deposited $3,500 on May 18, in a drop box outside his medical office as a down payment for the job. The woman allegedly agreed to pay the alleged hitman the rest of the money once the murder was completed.

The owner of Kidzlife Pediatrics, in Norton Commons, remains in federal prison in Oldham County.

The motivation for the crime is not clear.

If convicted, faces up to 10 years in prison. In the federal system there is no right to parole.

The Louisville Metropolitan Police Department is assisting in the investigation.
