While on vacation with new girlfriend Nicki Nicole, 23, Latin pop star Peso Pluma posted a photo on Instagram sporting a thick black mustache. The unusual facial hair quickly became a source of controversy and mockery from fans and critics alike.
The couple are currently soaking up the sun at the beach after making their relationship red carpet official last week at the 2023 Latin Grammy Awards. “Live and let live” is Peso Pluma’s personal mantra, and despite being told the age gap with Nicole was inappropriate, he ardently pursued the relationship.
Peso Pluma Shares Beach Selfie With New Look as Tour Closes
In a video on his Instagram stories, a smiling Peso Pluma, real name Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, invited followers to his final two Latin America tour stops on December 3 in Chile and December 7 in Buenos Aires. However, it was the dark mustache on display that ended up stealing the spotlight.
Fans and critics immediately began sounding off on the unusual facial hair. Comments ranged from mockery–“When you think everything appears and this appears” and “He urgently needs an image consultant“–to confusion–“Is it him or did the substitute arrive?“. Some even compared Peso Pluma to other mustached musicians like Diego Verdaguer and Homer Adams.
Mustache Merely an Instagram Filter, Stirring More Controversy
While the “Chaplinesque” mustache gave Peso Pluma a bold new look, it soon became clear it was just an Instagram filter and not authentic growth. The lack of Peso Pluma’s trademark freckles and moles in the video made many suspicious it was a body double promoting the tour stops.
So is the mustache real or an Instagram trick? Unfortunately just a filter. But the controversy around Peso Pluma’s appearance continues. The singer is likely unbothered, preferring to “live and let live.” Still, the mustache shows Peso Pluma is willing to take risks with his look, even if the reaction is mixed.
