The San Luis Potosí Prosecutor’s Office reported that the gunmen shot dead two policemen who were staying at the Hotel Michigan, their bodies were left inside a white Chevrolet Aveo Sedan vehicle, with license plates from the border state of Coahuila.

Violence by drug cartels

In the last 25 years, San Luis Potosí has ​​been affected by the presence of six drug cartels, such as the Gulf Cartel (CDG), the Zetas, now an arm of the Northeast Cartel (CDN) and currently the Jalisco New Generation Cartel ( CJNG). By the way, the biggest dispute that continues to raise the rates of violence in the entity is between the CJNG and the Gulf hitmen.

San Luis Potosí is located between Tamaulipas, Zacatecas and Guanajuato, neighboring states that are part of one of the obligatory routes for drug traffickers to access the border with the United States. In those states there are also constant clashes between the cartels over places for the sale and distribution of drugs.

There is concern among Mexican authorities about the emergence of a new criminal cell, known as the Taliban, which has already gained ground in 18 mayoralties and could form an alliance with a large cartel to strengthen it. During 2021 intentional homicides increased the incidence by 87 percent.
