Remote work down: less than 10% of Americans work from home two years after the start of the pandemic

During the months of the pandemic it was thought that remote work would become a reality; however, with the openings it has been seen that this has not been the case.

A survey by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics published this month that the proportion of employees who reported work remotely in the month of April it is only 7.7%, for the first time in more than two years.

This is a figure well below the maximum of 35% that was recorded during 2020 in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic that it was believed that it could become a normality in the coming years.

The figure does not include remote work for reasons unrelated to the pandemic, and includes people who worked remotely for pay at any time during the four weeks prior to the survey.

The survey indicates that this 7.7% is made up of a minority that have a common situation: the level of education.

People with a bachelor’s degree or higher are five times more likely to report who work from home than those who don’t, and are twice as likely to report working remotely as the average American.

More women than men reported working remotely due to the pandemic, although the difference between the two groups has narrowed from 10% in May 2020 to 1% in April this year.

Among the age groups, those aged 25 to 34 were those most likely to work remotely.

Looking at differences by race, Asians were the most likely of any demographic group to report that work from home due to pandemic, with almost 20% working remotely. Less than 5% percent of Latinos answered the same.

The pandemic was in a very different place when the survey began asking the remote work question in May 2020.

This was before the vaccine and the variantswhen deaths averaged 1,400 per day and hospitalizations averaged 51,000 beds used for COVID-19 patients.

This April, deaths averaged 400 a day, hospitalizations averaged 15,000, and cases 41,000.

However, other analyzes of companies such as FlexJobs indicate that even there is a lot of market for those looking for remote jobsespecially if the employees have less than two years of experience.
