Farnesio de Bernal died at the age of 96, as announced by the National Actors Association. He was an outstanding first actor and dancer from Michoacán.
Through social networks, he was said goodbye by his close ones after standing out for more than 60 years of a career in theater, film, and television.
That is why now many celebrities such as Rafael Perrin and Vanessa Bauche sent their condolences to which was added that of Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, who dedicated a message to him:
“A great film colleague. I worked and enjoyed Cronos and Cabeza de vaca. Loved by all”.

Who was Farnesio de Bernal?

The famous Farnesio de Bernal was born in November 1926, he first became interested in acting when he accompanied, almost forced, his mother to the theater, but he fell in love with the performing arts.
His career began in the late 60s after sneaking into concert rehearsals at Bellas Artes, where he made his debut under the direction of Salvador Novo.
He also studied at the Escuela de Arte Teatral del INBA and was a dancer and choreographer at the Academia de la Danza Mexicana and the Compañía de Danza Moderna.
Among his films in the seventh art are Cronos (1993), La verdadera vocación de Magdalena (1972), Aquellos años (1973), El señor de osanto (1974) and Su Excelencia (1967), where he shared credits with Cantinflas.
One of his international films was Original Sin (2001), a thriller in which he played Bank Clerk alongside Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas. After turning more than 90 years old, he was still part of the National Theater Company. The monologue “Sobre el daño que hace el tabaco… y algo más” was one of his last works in 2020.

This outstanding Mexican actor during his artistic career was recognized for his work in the entertainment industry in Mexico, so some tributes were made to him and awards were given to him, among which the following stand out:
- Virginia Fábregas Medal for 25 years of a career (1974).
- Ariel Award for La mujer de Benjamín (1992).
- Bellas Artes Medal (2011).
It is worth mentioning that in November 2022, as part of celebrating 50 years of existence of the CNT, he was awarded recognition for his masterful performance as an actor for decades.
