Ricky Martin, the acclaimed “Vuelve” singer, has shared personal insights into his recent separation from painter Jwan Yosef. Breaking his silence for the first time since the announcement of their divorce, Martin opened up about the relationship dynamics with his ex-partner and the father of his children.
The Grammy-winning artist explained that he and Yosef had been navigating the process of their separation for a couple of years, pre-dating the Covid-19 pandemic. Martin, at 51, emphasized that despite the relationship’s dissolution, the bond they share as parents to their children, Lucia and Renn Martin-Yosef, remains unbroken.
“Jwan and I will always be family. We have two children that we are going to raise together, and this is not from now. We have been planning this situation for a long time, this is pre-pandemic,” the singer stated in an interview with Telemundo Puerto Rico. Martin also noted that by the time they announced their divorce, they had already gone through a period of mourning. He explained, “We were firm that this was what had to happen for his sake, for my sake, and our children.”
Describing the moment when they agreed to part ways, Martin recalled, “We looked into each other’s eyes and smiled, and we hugged each other and went through the ups and downs and cried together and laughed together.” He emphasized that despite the split, they continue to have an excellent relationship, with Martin affirming, “We are better than ever.” This echoes Yosef’s sentiments, who had previously spoken to the press.
The Puerto Rican singer has also addressed rumors regarding his love life post-divorce. While he is open to the possibility of a new relationship, Martin emphasized that he is currently embracing his single status. He explained, “Take it easy. It was seven or eight years (of relationship). I’m going to have a good time. I want to have a good time, let’s take it easy, but I do see myself in another relationship. I’m not talking about the near future, but I love being in love. I like being in a couple. I like getting up in the morning, the morning kiss, the breakfast, the laughter, the complicity.”
These statements come amid speculations linking Martin to adult film actor Max Barz, who the “Pégate” singer recently started following on Instagram. However, Martin clarified his stance by emphasizing his current focus on enjoying his own company and spending quality time with his four children, Lucia and Renn, as well as twins Valentino and Matteo.
