Preston Gamble, a 15-year-old teenager, was fatally shot mid-afternoon Wednesday during an altercation between two groups at a residential complex in Calverton, Long Island (NY).
According to Suffolk County police, the 15-year-old was involved in a scuffle between two groups of teens and young adults at Hill Circle and was shot by a man at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday.
His family transported Gamble to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where he died. The School District confirmed the victim was a student at Riverhead High School, News 12 detailed.
No arrests have been announced. According to ABC News, the victim had 5 siblings, and the shooting happened in the residential complex where he lived. A witness commented that the gunman had been a young man.

In late March, also in Suffolk County, a Latino was arrested on suspicion of stabbing his cousin to death at his workplace in Hauppauge and then stabbing his girlfriend at the young Brentwood woman’s home.
Previously a Hispanic man was sentenced to 75 years to life in prison for opening fire on several people inside a local Copiague grocery store, killing the owner and a customer and leaving two critically injured.
In a letter to parents sent Wednesday, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Augustine E. Tornatore said, “It is with the deepest regret that we inform you tonight that a Riverhead High School student was the victim of an act of violence occurred in our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the student at this time (…) We will continue to inform the community of the support measures available throughout the district.”
