Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro breaking up and calling off their engagement despite three years of romance

From a New Year's proposal in Puerto Rico to cryptic social media posts, the star-crossed romance of Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro unfolds.

In March 2023, the music world was abuzz when singers Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro revealed their engagement in the video of their single ‘Beso.’ The Catalan singer romantically presented him with a diamond ring, a moment captured in a project also featuring the songs ‘Vampiros’ and ‘Promesa.’ However, according to sources close to the pair, the marriage has now been called off.

Rosalía and Alejandro’s relationship dates back to 2020, when they began to see each other more frequently after meeting through mutual friends. They confirmed their relationship in September 2021, coinciding with the ‘Motomami’ singer’s 28th birthday, sharing the news on social media.

The couple then further solidified their bond with matching tattoos and gave fans a glimpse into their relationship and wedding plans. Rosalía even admitted to having saved some dresses for the occasion, expressing her wish to celebrate with family. However, she initially admitted to Ibai Llanos that she was apprehensive about the Puerto Rican singer potentially ‘ghosting’ her, comparing him to the men in her life who were “emotionally unavailable.”

Recalling the proposal, Rosalía shared during an interview with El Hormiguero, “He asked me in Puerto Rico, at his grandparents’ house, which is in the mountains (…), and there were fireworks because it had been the chimes.” The proposal took place on New Year’s Eve, marking the start of their engagement.

However, in recent weeks, fans began to speculate about the state of their relationship. The couple seemingly stopped appearing together in photos and ceased commenting on each other’s posts. A picture of Rosalía crying further fueled the speculation, particularly as some fans noticed she appeared to no longer be wearing her engagement ring.

At the latest edition of the Premios Juventud, Rosalía was noticeably absent. Rauw Alejandro was seen enjoying a river outing with Colombian singer Shakira – his collaborator on ‘Te Felicito’ – and her children in Puerto Rico. The Spanish singer’s absence at this event further stoked rumors about their separation.

Despite the whispers and speculation, People reports, “Sources say that despite the love and respect the singers have for each other, they both agreed to end their engagement.” Their decision to cancel the marriage appears to be mutual, marking an unexpected turn in their journey together.
