Salvadoran soccer player Erik Alejandro Rivera was suspended for 4 years after testing positive for doping during the Concacaf Qualifiers

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has imposed a four-year doping suspension on Salvadoran Erick Alejandro Rivera and Sabri Ali Mohamed, from Djibouti, reported the highest body in world football on Monday.

According to the communication, the Salvadoran soccer player tested positive for clostebol after the match against Canada, of the qualifying phase for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, played on September 8, 2021 in Toronto.

Sabri Ali Mohamed tested positive for exogenous testosterone application in a match against Algeria, also a World Cup qualifier, played on November 12 last year.

In the announcement of the decision of the Disciplinary Committee, it specifies that the presence of samples of said substances constitutes an infringement of article 6 of the FIFA Anti-Doping Regulations and article 17 of the body’s Disciplinary Code.

“Given that the provisional suspension time that the players have served has been deducted from the four-year suspension imposed, Messrs. Rivera and Mohamed will not be able to carry out their football activity until October 5, 2025 and January 11, 2026, respectively, ”he indicates.

The suspension includes the prohibition to participate in all types of matches at the national and international level.l, friendly or official.

The decision can be appealed before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within a period of 21 days from receipt of the notification.
