The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has said that he faced two options after Russia‘s offensive in Ukraine: “start a third world war” or hit Russia with economic sanctions. In an interview published on Saturday, Biden insisted that Moscow will pay “a heavy price” for their military operation.
“Look, you have two options: start a third world war, go to war with Russia, physically, or two: make sure that a country that acts so contrary to international law pays a price for having done so,” Biden said in an interview posted online Saturday on Tyler Cohen’s podcast.

Two days earlier, Biden imposed sanctions on a number of Russian banks, various individuals, and technology imports from Russia. On Friday, the White House announced that it would follow up with another round of sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and members. of the Russian Security Council.
As we have previously mentioned on AmericanPost.News, the United States’s president has so far insisted that the United States will not intervene militarily in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, but has increased military aid to Ukraine and sent thousands of US troops to NATO countries in Eastern Europe.
Immediately before the military action outbreak, Putin warned that any other country that interfered with the advance on Ukraine “would face consequences greater than any they have faced in history.”
However, some members of Congress have demanded that Biden go beyond sanctions. Following requests from some Ukrainian politicians, Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger, a tacit ally of the Democratic president, has called on Biden to impose a “no-fly zone” over Ukraine. Such a move would amount to a declaration of war on Russia, critics warned.
