Chicago police are hoping to find some surveillance video that could point to a motive for the bizarre attack.

A security guard fatally shot a man who attacked him with an ax after an exchange of words outside a Greektown marijuana dispensary, Chicago police said.
The suspect approached the guard at the Zen Leaf Dispensary, 222 S. Halsted St., around 10:00 a.m. Monday and lobbed an ax at him, hitting him in the leg. At that moment a struggle broke out and the guard fired his weapon and injured the man.authorities said.
“A struggle ensued and the victim fired, striking the offender,” police said in a statement.
The 37-year-old guard was taken to Northwestern Hospital and reported to be in fair condition after his left leg was injured. The suspect was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital, who according to the Chicago Fire Department was approximately 20 years old.
Investigations into the case are ongoing.
“This morning outside Zen Leaf on Halsted Street an individual attacked a contracted external security guard with a weapon outside the dispensary. Both individuals were taken to hospitals with serious injuries,” the dispensary told NBC 5 in a statement.
The dispensary added that the place will be closed for the rest of the holidays while authorities continue their investigations.
Some sources connected to the investigations told the outlet that the suspect carrying the ax in a large backpack could have been a disgruntled customer.
