The problems caused by the inheritance of Joan Sebastian do not seem to have an end, even 7 years after the death of the singer. His son José Manuel Figueroa summarized the problem with his brothers to TVyNovelas saying that “Unfortunately, we went through a process that is going to take a long time, mainly because my father died without leaving a will.”
The Mexican regional music singer died in 2015 from bone cancer, a disease he suffered for 18 years. And since then her eight children, from different mothers, have disputed a long inheritance.
According to the lawyer for the Figueroa Cipriano Sotelo family, The inheritance disputed by the singer’s children is 51 properties, between the Mexican states of Morelos, Guerrero and Veracruz. However, one of the singer’s daughters, Juliana Sebastian, denounced in January 2021 that some assets and even bank accounts were hidden. This has been dismissed by her brothers.
Juliana also claims that the correct distribution of the assets has not been made, since it has happened irregularly. Another of the singer’s sons, Julián Figueroa affirms that the process has indeed been complicated, but because there have been many things: “We have been dealing with this for so long and for so many years that I do not think it will be resolved soon.“.
The legal representative of the family stated in 2020 that The assets will be shared equally between each of the co-heirs. Ideally, an agreement would be reached between the parties, but if it is not achieved, all the goods would be sold and the money collected would be distributed. However, José Manuel affirms that until now his only inheritance has been “pure problems”.
