Authorities arrested ‘El Gafe,’ a hitman for the Jalisco Cartel – New Generation (CJNG) who was allegedly responsible for the attack in Plaza Andares, for the shooting in Zapopan on October 2.
During the morning conference today, October 13, the Undersecretary of Public Security, Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, reported the arrest of César Augusto N, known as ‘El Gafe.’
According to the information provided, the subject is one of the CJNG commanders in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga and El Salto in Jalisco.
In addition, ‘El Gafe’ would be the author of the shooting in Zapopan on the afternoon of Sunday, October 2, where a kidnapping attempt in Plaza Andares ended with the death of a security escort and unleashed fear and chaos among the population.
Similarly, Ricardo Mejia Berdeja shared that two others arrested in the shooting in Zapopan have already been linked.
Regional CJNG Regional Leader ‘El Gafe’ Detained
On Tuesday, October 11, elements of the National Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), in collaboration with:
- National Guard
- National Intelligence Center
- Office of the Prosecutor for Organized Crime of the FGR (FEMDO)
… arrested two individuals, including César Augusto N, alias ‘El Gafe’, alleged regional head of the CJNG in Tlajumulco de Zúñiga and El Salto, in Jalisco.
According to Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, the arrest was made after three properties in Zapopan and Guadalajara were searched and seized:
- one thousand fentanyl pills
- handguns and long arms, as well as cartridges, grenades and
- grenades
- vehicles
Allegedly, ‘El Gafe’ will be indicted for the crimes of homicide and kidnapping, in addition to being the perpetrator of the shooting at the Andares plaza in Zapopan, Jalisco.

‘El Gafe’ is one of the main generators of violence in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (ZMG), is in charge of:
- drug dealing
- hitmen
- hawks
He is also in charge of recruiting new members for the CJNG’s operational cells in the states of Jalisco, Quintana Roo, and Estado de México.
‘El Gafe” was arrested along with Juan Carlos N. and “Carlitos”; both men were handed over to the FEMDO, where they await trial.
CJNG members linked to Zapopan shooting spree
Likewise, Ricardo Mejía Berdeja informed that two of the subjects involved in the shooting in Zapopan, namely Luis Raúl N, 45 years old, and Jonathan Everardo N, 23 years old, have been sentenced to trial. They were detained at the scene by members of the Army.
In this sense, it was pointed out that the men were sentenced to trial for the crimes of aggravated homicide and attempted aggravated homicide, derived from the shooting in Zapopan on October 2, where a security escort died.
It should be noted that the men were arrested on the same day that the events took place, and it was announced that they must remain in custody for one year as a precautionary measure.

What happened in the shooting in Zapopan, Jalisco?
According to the authorities’ report, the shooting at the Andares plaza in Zapopan, Jalisco, was due to an attempted kidnapping of a businessman.
Allegedly, the man was eating at one of the restaurants in the Guadalajara plaza when members of the CJNG arrived with weapons and shot at his bodyguards, one of whom was in a car and died.
After the first shots were fired, members of the Sedena arrived at the scene and exchanged fire with the criminals, who managed to flee the area, except for two who were captured.
The shooting in Zapopan caused great fear and chaos among the people of Jalisco who were in and around the plaza.
