During the years 2020 and 2021 the stimulus checks were one of the most sought after topics as millions of Americans searched for information about the aid they could access during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although the year has ended, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has reported that you can still access the payments agreed as part of the American Rescue Plan.

Direct payments that were distributed to taxpayers to provide a boost to household finances as people were affected by the pandemic. Taxpayers received a check for up to $ 1,400 per person. However, being eligible was not enough as taxpayers should also have all of their correct data in the IRS systems. So not everyone who was entitled to receive a payment received it.

File your 2021 tax return in 2022 and you will receive payment

In the same way, the Child Tax Credit, the child and dependent care credit as well as the earned income tax credit can be claimed the next time you file your taxes.

Who will be left out

Taxpayers who have not filed their tax return in the previous three years or did not provide their information through the website Non-Filer they will be left out of receiving any of the three stimulus checks.

Also the families who welcomed a new member of their home will be left out of the third stimulus check. It will be until the moment they file their 2021 tax return that they will be able to claim the payment due to the IRS and, where appropriate, avail themselves of other tax provisions.

One of them could be the 2021 Child Tax Credit that could grant taxpayers up to $ 3,600 for each newborn or for each adopted child under the age of six and up to $ 3,000 for each child between the ages of six and 17 who has not been declared in 2020 taxes.

How to claim the $ 1,400 stimulus check

Families that have had a newborn or adopted a child in 2021 will be able to claim the amount of the third Economic Impact Payment that corresponds to them through the Recovery Credit of 2021. This also applies to all taxpayers who did not obtain the amount full that corresponded to them of the direct payment scheme.

It is important that you can review the documentation that the IRS has sent the supplemental payments you have received. If you’ve lost the letter the federal agency sent you, you can find information through the IRS website. If you try to claim more credit than your due you could delay the processing of your tax return and, therefore, your refund, if you are entitled.

If you are missing the first two Economic Impact Payments, you will need to submit a 2020 1040 form to request the 2020 Recovery Refund Credit.
