Carolina Gaitán Pepa Encanto. Carolina Gaitán is a Colombian actress and singer. He studied at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in New York and was awarded the Telemundo Tu Mundo Awards for his talent and versatility. This new Disney production “Encanto” that is coming to theaters soon, is about Pepa (voice of Carolina Gaitán) and Félix (voice of Mauro Castillo) who are Mirabel’s peculiar aunt and her fun-loving uncle. Pepa, one of Abuela Alma’s triplets, had the power to control the weather with her emotions.

Carolina Gaitán Pepa Encanto: Tell us a bit about that casting for “Encanto” because it wasn’t easy. How was that process?

“Before I didn’t know when, there was no COVID, when I went to do the casting, so that was beautiful and the Disney studios and doing the casting. Then, when time starts to pass and then they tell me you have a call back and then COVID arrives, then one says no, and then they tell you to stay and start working with the directors. You start working with Manuel Miranda, who for me has really been one of the most special things, because I admire him a lot ”.

“And then you start to realize that the character comes to life and then you realize that it comes to life thanks to what you print to your imagination, because at first you do it without seeing the doll, only when you are directed and they tell you what is happening and you are not seeing it. Well, they create it based on your voice, based on your eyes, what you are and what you begin to print on a creative level, under their direction ”.

Carolina Gaitán Pepa Encanto: Carolina talks a little about Pepa, she has a gift that shows the climatic varieties of Colombia.

“Pepa is the one who controls the weather through emotions and she is too nervous and too dramatic, so it is more difficult for her to control her emotions and therefore the weather and everyone is harmed by that, because if she is already nervous, then it rains and it thunders and everyone says please stop ”.

“She is beautiful, she is super vulnerable, she is super sweet, she is a very good mother, she is super careful with her children, super special with her husband who is Felix. They have a beautiful partner, they are very funny, they are also a bit the life of the party when they are together. So it is a share of many things that my character has, of course, that of my husband who is played by Mauro Castillo and is a beautiful, colorful, happy, dramatic and very special couple ”.

Carolina Gaitán Pepa Encanto: Do ​​you think that this “Encanto” movie in any way has that similarity to you, the importance of family?

“Completely. Now that you are talking to me about how I grew up on a small plane with my father and mother driving it and not in a car, it is very special, because that story, when I made my callback and I thought they were going to ask me about my career . When all of a sudden they ask me none of that and they say Hello, how are you? Hey, tell us about your childhood ”.

“I began to tell you all this that I literally grew up with my mom and dad driving a small plane around the Colombian jungle surrounded by a thousand animals and I started to count and these fascinated gentlemen, they told me how is it possible? Then they asked me about my brother, I told them what happened with my brother, until suddenly the casting ends. I said now if they are going to ask me about me, for my professional part, they tell me sing us ”.

“Well, I sang and the audition was over. And the next thing was, you already stayed. So it is very nice how that is also very reflected in the film and I think that perhaps they were also looking for that a lot, they were looking for people who really represented Colombia from the strangest and perhaps exotic things, they will not grow around flying the Colombian jungle, well it is very particular and it is very nice that Colombia is that ”.

“Colombia is all that perhaps sometimes those who live in Bogotá, because they don’t know that much. Colombia is all that we want to show to so many people that it is colorful, that it is a climatic variety, that a vegetation so supremely varied also and rich depending on the city or the town or the region where you go. And that is precious, that the film is also shown ”.

Do you think a film that showed that part of Colombia was also necessary?

Completely this is a balm for Colombia. It is, obviously the whole movie is a fiction. Clearly all of this is a story that they create and it is not just, let’s say that Disney wants to represent what Colombia is, but you see so many beautiful things about Colombia, you see its idiosyncrasy, you see the working people, you see the colors, the magical realism animals see, music is seen. No, all that really represents us much more than what we are used to hearing in our country.

Do you dedicate this character in any way to that angel you have in heaven? “My little brother has been truly impressive, as his presence from where he is is so evident. It already passes. I don’t dedicate it 100 percent to him, this is for him. This is a project that he sent me and that every second of what I have done I feel it next to me ”. “The reggaeton singer is not there, but there is also Carlos Vives, who is 100 percent music that really has absolutely Colombian genres and sounds. So it is very nice to see that really the people they chose as they are are very very very important representatives of the country and that. “Beautiful, you are right. “It’s wonderful because they are children, they are incredible consumers of content, they vibrate like no one else, with the content they like, they let it be known, they communicate it.
