According to a recent study, fans of Taylor Swift -33 years old-recently caused an earthquake during her concerts. Is Mexico in for the same?
A report by CNN confirmed that Taylor Swift’s fans caused an earthquake during her two back-to-back performances at Lumen Field stadium in Seattle, USA, on July 22 and 23.
Seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach, a professor of geology at Western Washington University, revealed that Taylor Swift’s fans caused seismic activity equivalent to a 2.3 earthquake. Will it happen in Mexico?

Seismologists name quake triggered by Taylor Swift fans as ‘Swift Quake’
Expert seismologists detected an earthquake during Taylor Swift’s performances at the Seattle arena for 3 nights in a row, calling it the ‘Swift Quake’ effect.
According to Caplan-Auerbach, the ‘Swift Quake,’ as this earthquake phenomenon triggered by Taylor Swift’s fans has been named, detected by the local seismometer.
“Going to Taylor’s show in Seattle was unlike anything I had ever experienced. You could literally feel the ground shaking under your feet. My ears are still ringing.”
Chloe Melas, Taylor Swift Fan
The ‘Swift Quake,’ i.e., the quake that was triggered by Taylor Swift fans, was compared to the ‘Beast Quake’ in 2011, which was triggered by Seattle Seahawks fans.
For during running back Marshawn ‘Beast Mode’ Lynch‘s touchdown, the stadium erupted in excitement, causing an earthquake.

The tremor caused by Taylor Swift fans surpassed that of soccer fans.
A seismologist revealed that after Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour concerts in Seattle for two nights in a row, fans triggered a 2.3 earthquake.
Although this phenomenon had already been registered with Seattle Seahawks fans in 2011, the quake caused by Taylor Swift fans was bigger.
For although the difference was 0.3 degrees, the tremor of Taylor Swift’s fans was twice as strong; “she begged for it.”
“The main difference is the duration of the shaking. Cheering after a touchdown lasts a couple of seconds, but eventually it dies down. It’s much more random than a concert. For Taylor Swift, I collected about 10 hours of data where the beat controlled the behavior. The music, the speakers, the beat. All that energy can sink into the ground and shake it up.”
Jackie Caplan-Auerbach, seismologist
It is worth remembering that this happened during the two back-to-back nights at Seattle’s Lumen Field; at Mexico’s Foro Sol, Taylor Swift will be performing 4 back-to-back dates:
- August 24
- August 25th
- August 26th
- August 27th
Could Taylor Swift’s fans trigger an earthquake during her concerts in Mexico, like in Seattle?
