The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, and the president of the Border Patrol union, Brandon Judd, denounced this Thursday that the Administration of the US president Joe Biden supplies baby formula to undocumented immigrants in the midst of a national shortage of the product.

“Children are our most vulnerable and valuable Texans and deserve to be put first. Still, President Biden has ignored parents across America facing the nightmare of a national baby formula shortage,” Abbott and Judd said in a joint statement released by the Republican governor’s office.

They added that “while mothers and fathers look at the empty shelves of the stores, the Biden administration is happy to provide baby formula to illegal immigrants crossing our southern border.”

“This is yet another of the Biden Administration’s reckless and callous priorities when it comes to securing our border and protecting Americans. Our children deserve a president who puts their needs and survival first, not one who gives critical supplies to illegal immigrants before the people he was sworn to serve.”

The statement was issued on the same day that President Biden spoke with some of the major domestic manufacturers of powdered baby milk, pressing them to increase their production, announcing that he will import greater quantities of this product due to the shortage without precedent in your country.

The Democratic president spoke with the CEOs of the Mead Johnson and Gerber companies, which produce infant formula, and with the Walmart and Target retail chains, the White House reported.

In the last weeks, finding powdered baby milk has been a challenge for parents in different states of the country, an issue that has become a throwing weapon between Republicans and Democrats and that has led the federal government to react.

The shortage has been caused by global supply problems caused by the pandemic and difficulties at the production plant that Abbott, the leading manufacturer of infant formula in the United States, has in Sturgis, Michigan.
