The stories behind the entire family of the leader of the former Sinaloa Cartel, Joaquín Guzmán Loera, better known as “El Chapo” Guzmán, remain a mystery to many, and over the years more stories have been uncovered about each of the members who allied with the leader of drug trafficking in Mexico.
Recently, a four-minute video was uncovered, which was presented by US prosecutors as part of a moment that could be key to the extradition of Ovidio Guzmán López, the youngest son of the co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel, who is currently imprisoned in the Federal Center for Social Reinsertion (Cefereso) No. 1 in Almoloya de Juárez.
They tried to kill “Los Chapitos”
Initially broadcast on YouTube, this video shows the interrogation that “El Chapo” and his allies made of a man who is shown handcuffed and brutally beaten; this torture would be just the beginning, as he would have been kidnapped for having tried to kill “Los Chapitos.”
The audiovisual represents a long history full of betrayals and revenge that generated the rupture of the alliance between the Sinaloa Cartel and the Beltrán Leyva Cartel; it was in the first decade of the 2000s that the Beltrán Leyva brothers dominated the drug trafficking market in Mexico.

Killed the son of the hitman Manuel Fernández
It was in 2008 that Alfredo Beltrán Leyva, alias “El Mochomo,” was captured in Culiacán, where, allegedly after this event, Arturo Beltrán Leyva “El Barbas” sought revenge against “El Chapo” with a plan that included the murder of the drug trafficker, as well as his son Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar and his associates Isamel “El Mayo” Zambada and Ignacio “Nacho” Coronel.

It was in this way that the hitman entrusted this task to Israel Rincón Martínez “El Guacho,” who was provided with information about the luxury cars in which the eldest son of “El Chapo” traveled when he went to Sinaloa; however, he failed and executed Marcial Fernández, son of Manuel Fernández Valencia alias “El Animal,” a hitman of the Sinaloa Cartel.
After learning of this assassination attempt, Joaquín Guzmán Loera became concerned and began a search to find those responsible for the situation; Israel Rincón was soon captured and, according to statements made by Dámaso López Núñez “El Licenciado,” on instructions from Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, they were in charge of finding a safe place to interrogate “El Guacho.”
The torture of “El Guacho”
It would be the ranch of Dámaso López Núñez himself, the indicated place where Guzmán Loera was going to torture the man who tried to harm his family; according to local media, it was reported that “El Guacho” was tortured with electric shocks on his ears and some dental pieces were dislodged.
It is also presumed that Ivan Archivaldo and Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar may have been present at the scene; in addition, according to sealed documents to which Alan Feuer of The New York Times had access, “El Chapo” hired a doctor to wake up Israel Rincon every time he fainted in pain after being tortured by members of the Sinaloa Cartel.
