Ian Alexander Jr., the only son of American actress and filmmaker Regina King, took his own life on Wednesday, January 19, at the age of just 26, on his birthday.
The sad news was confirmed by the actress herself with a painful farewell message. Alexander, who was a musician and DJ, frequently accompanied King to red carpet events. Mother and son had a close bond.
“Our family is deeply devastated by the loss of Ian”, said the Oscar winner in a statement released Saturday by a spokesman. “He was a shining light who cared about the happiness of others.. Our family asks for respectful consideration during this private time. Thanks”.
The “One Night in Miami” director had Alexander with her ex-husband, record producer Ian Alexander Sr. They divorced in 2007 after nearly a decade of marriage.
